It is truly amazing all the modern iPhone apps, and it is rather fascinating how quickly entrepreneurs and users come up with more innovations and desires for new apps as well. One app I’d like to see for the iPhone or the iPad is a scanner which works off the digital camera, which could take a picture of any text and read it back to you later, whenever you decided you wanted to listen to that information.

For instance, let’s say you are sitting in an airport reading the newspaper, and you see a few stories in the business section you’d like to read, but you don’t want to take the whole newspaper, as you might like to leave it for someone else, rather than littering the plane wherever it is you are going to sit. In this case, you could merely take pictures of the stories you are interested in perhaps in the business section, and perhaps a couple of geopolitical articles on the international news page.

Maybe you see a brochure about a travel destination. Wouldn’t it be nice to snap a picture of that, and leave the brochure where you found it rather than carting it off with you? They are typically more focused on a task – finding an address, getting a price, seeing a product, buying a single item – rather than the more leisurely browsing or immersive experience they might be looking for on a desktop or laptop. So from the start, mobile content can be pared down without compromising likely use cases, so you can already be ahead of the game simply by selectively choosing content for mobile.

Even with carefully selected content, how that content and the page itself are structured makes all the difference in response time and hence, user satisfaction. Every page has to be lean and fit.
